South East Asia

Visiting South East Asia

Land of tuk-tuks, temples, tropical islands and volcanoes – to venture here is to dip your toe into a truly spiritual part of the world. From blissfully beautiful beaches, to lush rainforests, buzzing metropolises and golden Buddhas, you simply won’t forget a trip to this enthralling destination.

This region has something to offer everyone: beach-loving sun-worshippers, history enthusiasts, sporty types or those who like living it up in the city – visitors here will not be left disappointed. With a vast range of countries to explore, your main challenge will be deciding what makes it onto your itinerary on your charter yacht holiday to Southeast Asia.

Southeast Asia is a sub-region of Asia that consists of those countries to the south of China, the east of India and the north of Australia. The area can be divided into Mainland Southeast Asia and Maritime Southeast Asia. The countries that comprise Mainland Southeast Asia include Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam and Myanmar and West Malaysia. Maritime Southeast Asia consists of Timor Leste, Brunei, the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia.

The region’s climate is predominantly tropical, and is humid and hot all year round with heavy rainfall. Temperatures can reach highs of around 38˚ Celsius. Southeast Asia has distinct wet and dry seasons brought about by seasonal changes in winds, known as ‘monsoons’. The area’s rainforest is the second-biggest on the planet and the region has a rich diversity of flora and fauna. In addition, its waters boast the highest levels of diversity for marine ecosystems in the world. As such, they are home to some spectacular marine life and coral.

Surf and sand on the Bukit Peninsula, Bali: With a host of great beaches, including the popular Padang Padang Beach, come here for surfing that’s far from the crowds of Kuta Beach. If surfing isn’t for you, then head to Jimbaran Beach instead – it’s one of Bali’s finest.

The gorgeous Gili Islands, Indonesia: For a simply sublime setting, the Gilis are worth a stop-off. Fine white sands, azure seas and coconut palms, this group of three islands are idyllic. They also offer a mix of entertainment and activities, such as diving and yoga.

Halong Bay, Vietnam: All the way up in northeast Vietnam, this hauntingly beautiful place is one of north Vietnam’s main attractions. Admired for its emerald waters and towering limestone islands capped with forest, it also has UNESCO World Heritage status.

Ko Tao, Thailand: Small (but perfectly formed) this island is a great spot for snorkelling and diving. So, expect to see stunning tropical fish, colourful coral, sharks, wrecks and perhaps even a turtle or two.

Shiny Singapore: For a taste of urban life, be sure to stop at Singapore. Explore this vast city with ease on its super-fast MRT system. Take in the sights and smells of Chinatown and Little India, then relax in the beautiful Botanic Gardens. Then, end your day with a Singapore Sling in the Long Bar at the legendary Raffles Hotel!

Tioman Island, Malaysia: Hike through jungle, dive in crystal-clear waters, recline on beaches or visit the island’s villages for a taste of authentic local life.

Palawan, the Philippines: Beaches, caves, mountains and jungles: this long, thin island covers all the bases. Go wreck diving in Coron, sail the stunning Bacuit Archipelago or head to Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park to explore its underground river.

The region of Southeast Asia offers an exhilarating and extraordinarily beautiful destination for your charter yacht holiday. With an abundance of magical islands and a vast area to discover, this region is perfect for exploring by boat.
